Thursday 8/28/2008 -A.M.

Benevolent Midwestern rains will exert downward pressure on row crop values and consequently 'sling some mud' into the wheat pit. Improved crop weather in Australia and Argentina also noted and folded into the price mix.

Jordan bought 100,000 Mt of Ukrainian wheat at $10.05 per bushel C&F,  for October shipment. Competitive 'Black Sea' offers a fixture in today's marketplace.  Japan's Ministry of Agriculture booked 13,266 Mt of food wheat and 20,798 Mt of food barley through two tenders under the simultaneous buy and sell (SBS) system. All shipments must be made between Sept. 1 and Nov. 30.

The USDA's weekly wheat export sales report deemed 'middle of the road'.  SWW's column was knocked by a 50,000 Mt sale to Yemen. Swing biz always needed and appreciated. Industry SW and HRW wheat offers go into the CCC today and we'll wait till tomorrow PM until the Afghanistan donation lottery winner is revealed. Eleven ships in the CRD and three are under the spouts.

Thursday - P.M.

A 'soft day' in Chicago, as futures slipped down 13 to 14 cents.  Row crop prices couldn't get much traction and wheat pit buyers were reluctant to come forward. Better global crop weather conditions and prospects prevail. Local SWW track markets hardly budged. For now, current demand and pace of country selling is matched to keeping prices stable. Tomorrow's Afghanistan giveaway is the main event.
